Breeder’s Choice Recalls Active Care Biscuits

Breeder’s Choice, a Central Garden & Pet company, has issued a voluntary recall
for a single batch of Active Care Biscuits-Healthy Dog Treats due to mold discovered in one of the lots of dog biscuits.

Product and product lots that do not appear above have not been affected.
According to a release from the manufacturer, the mold seems to have occurred due to varying dryer temperature settings
for drying biscuits. This exposed the recalled product to excess moisture and has since been remedied.
Pet owners who fed their pets the recalled biscuits should watch for symptoms that may develop. Common symptoms associated
with mold exposure include gastrointestinal issues such as loose stool. At the time of this release, there have been no reports
of human or pet illnesses associated with this recall.

Natura Pet has confirmed they are recalling at least 23 pet food products affecting dogs, cats, and ferrets. . The products
listed below may be contaminated with salmonella. These products appear to be distributed nationwide through PetCo, various
online retailers, and local businesses. This is shaping up to be a large recall. Please spread the word. The recall affects
the products named below that also have an expiration date between 12/17/13 and 1/2/14. If you have products possibly contanimated

Hy-Vee Recalls Select Bags of Dog Food
Hy-Vee, an employee-owned corporation, has issued a voluntary recall for certain bags of Hy-Vee dog food due to elevated
levels of a chemical contaminant commonly found in corn.

According to a FDA press release, routine tests conducted by the Iowa Department of Agriculture
indicated higher-than-normal levels of aflatoxin in several samples of Hy-Vee dog food produced at the Kansas City plant operated
by Pro-Pet, LLC.
Aflatoxin is a naturally occurring chemical produced by the mold fungus Aspergillus, which is commonly
found in corn during drought conditions. Pets that ingest high levels of aflatoxin may become ill over time. If you believe
your pet ingested a higher-than–normal level of aflatoxin, consult your veterinarian. No illnesses have been reported
and poses no health risk to humans.
The recalled products were distributed to Hy-Vee stores in Iowa, Illinois, Missouri,
Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin between October 26, 2012 and January 11, 2013. The recall is limited
to the products listed above and no other Hy-Vee dog food products or code dates have been affected.
Customers are
urged to check the Best By dates and discontinue use if their products are listed in the recall. Recalled dog food, opened
or unopened, may be returned to Hy-Vee stores for a full refund.

Nutri-Vet Recalls Nutri-Vet and Nutripet Chicken Jerky Products
Nutri-Vet is voluntarily recalling its Nutri-Vet and NutriPet Chicken Jerky Products because they may be contaminated with
Salmonella.
Nutri-Vet is recalling these lot numbers because the manufacturer of an ingredient used in the products informed it of the possibility of Salmonella presence at the
ingredient manufacturing facility. No positive test results have been found on Nutri-Vet or NutriPet products to date.
The
recalled Chicken Jerky Treats were distributed nationwide through online sales and in retail stores from April 2012 through
February 2013 with Best By Dates ranging from April 20, 2014, through October 3, 2014.
The product comes in a clear
plastic bag containing Chicken Jerky Treats.
Salmonella can sicken animals that eat these products and humans that
handle contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the
products or any surfaces exposed to these products.
Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves
for any of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever.
Consumers
exhibiting these symptoms should contact their healthcare providers.
Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious
ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms.
Pets
with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have
only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain.
If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has any of these
signs, contact your veterinarian.Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans.
The
United States-based supplier has ceased the production and distribution of the ingredient supplied to Nutri-Vet while FDA
and the manufacturer continue investigating as to the source of the potential contamination. No other products made by Nutri-Vet,
LLC are included in the recall.
Consumers who have purchased Nutri-Vet and NutriPet Chicken Jerky Products are urged
to stop feeding them to pets and return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may
contact Nutri-Vet at 1-877-729-8668 Monday thru Friday from 7am to 5pm MDT.

The Honest Kitchen has issued a voluntary nationwide recall of limited lots of Verve, Zeal, and Thrive products due
to possible Salmonella contamination.

The products listed in the recall were produced between August and November 2012 and sold in
US and Canada retail stores. In addition, the products were sold mail order and online after August 2012. The recall only
affects batches sold to the company in 2012 and no other batches have been affected.
According to Honest Kitchen’s
website, the company is taking precautionary action after learning that one of their raw ingredients suppliers has recalled
a batch of human-grade parsley that poses a potential risk of Salmonella. The Honest Kitchen has stopped all purchasing of
ingredients from the supplier that provided the parsley. At the time of the release, there were no reported cases of
Salmonella reported associated with the recall.
If your pet had contact with the recalled products, you are advised
to watch for symptoms that may develop. Common symptoms associated with Salmonella poisoning include diarrhea or bloody diarrhea,
fever, and vomiting. If your pet experiences any of these symptoms, contact a medical professional for further assistance.
Owners are also advised to watch for those same symptoms in themselves and family members who may have handled the pet’s
food.
Customers are urged to discontinue use immediately.
Please save the UPC (bar code) and lot code from
the packaging to be eligible for a refund of the MSRP. Lot codes are located on the top of the box either adjacent to or opposite
from the UPC. Consumers can receive a replacement or full refund, plus $1.00 to cover postage.

Kasel Associated Industries Recalls Pet Products Manufactured at its Colorado Facility
Kasel Associated Industries has issued a voluntary recall for all products manufactured at its Denver Colorado Facility
from April 20, 2012 through September 19, 2012 due to possible Salmonella contamination.
According to a FDA press release, the company is recalling Boots & Barkley, BIXBI, Nature’s Deli, Colorado
Naturals, Petco, and Best Bully Stick items.
Products with best-by-dates after the specified ranges have not been affected. At the time of this release there were
no reported cases of Salmonella linked to the products included in the recall.
However, if your pet had contact with the recalled products, you are advised to watch for symptoms that may develop.
Common symptoms associated with Salmonella poisoning include diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. If your pet
experiences any of these symptoms, contact a medical professional for further assistance. Owners are also advised to watch
for those same symptoms in themselves and family members who may have handled the pet’s food.
Customers who purchased the listed products are urged to discontinue use immediately. Recalled products may be returned

Nature’s Variety Recalls Instinct Raw Organic Chicken Medallions and Patties
Nature’s Variety has issued a voluntary recall of one batch of Instinct Raw Organic Chicken Medallions and Patties
for dogs and cats with a “Best if Used By” date of 10/04/13.
The “Best if Used By” date can be found on the back of the package below the “Contact Us” section.
Pieces of clear plastic may be found in some bags and could cause a potential choking risk to pets. Affected batches
include:

- UPC# 7 69949 70137 8 – Instinct Raw Organic Chicken Formula medallions, 27 lbs. case

According to the Nature’s Variety press release, the company became aware of this issue after receiving a consumer
complaint. The source was identified and resolved. To date, there have been no reports of harm to dogs or cats.

you have fed these products, discontinue use, monitor your pet, and contact your veterinarian if you have concerns.
If
you have purchased one of the above products, obtain a full refund or exchange by either returning the product in its original
packaging or bringing a proof of purchase back to your retailer.

Hartz Mountain Withdraws Chicken Chews and Oinkies

According to a Hartz Mountain Corporation press release, Hartz testing found trace amounts of unapproved antibiotic
residue in samples of Hartz Chicken Chews and Oinkies Pig Skin Twists wrapped with Chicken products. These antibiotics
are approved for use in poultry in China and other countries, including European Union member states, but are not approved
in the U.S. The trace amounts of antibiotic residue do not pose a pet health or safety risk. These results are
highly unlikely to be related to the reports of illnesses FDA has received related to jerky pet treats produced in China. No
other Hartz products are affected by this withdrawal.
