American Staffordshire Terrier |
American Staffordshire Terrier was used for bullbaiting in England and originally called the Bull-and-Terrier
Dog, Half and Half or Pit Dog. It is often confused with the "American Pit Bull Terrier,"which is a different, distinct
breed. They are members of the terrier group and were AKC recognized in 193. They range in size from 17 to 19 inches
tall at the shoulder. They come in any color, solid, parti, or patched is permissible, but all white, more than 80 per cent
white, black and tan, and liver not to be encouraged. This breed has an average lifespan of 12 to 14 years. Minor health problems
such as elbow dysplasia, hypothyroidism, and heart disease, and major ailments like progressive retinal atrophy,canine hip
dysplasia, and cerebellar ataxia. The American Staffordshire Terriers have also suffered from cruciate ligament rupture and
allergies.

Australian Cattle Dog |
Australian Cattle Dog the name tells it all. They are from Austrailia and they were bred to herd cattle.
The coat color should be blue, blue-mottled or blue speckled with or without other markings or good even red speckle all over. They
are members of the herding group and were AKC recognized in 1980. They range in size from 17 to 20 inches tall at the
shoulder. Australian Cattle Dogs have a lifespan of about 10 to 13 years. Major health concerns include progressive retinal
atrophy, canine hip dysplasia, elbow dyspasia, deafness, and Osteochondrosis Dissecans. Some of the diseases that can be occasionally
seen in them are lens luxation, cataract, con Willebrand's Disease, and Persistent Pupillary Membrane.

Australian Shepherd |
Australian Shepherd probably developed in the Pyrenees Mountains somewhere between Spain and France
and is associated with Basque shepherds. They are members of the herding group and were AKC recognized in 1991.
They range in size from 18 to 23 inches tall at the shoulder and their coats can be black, blue merle, red merle and
red with or without white markings. The Australian Shepherd dog has an average lifespan of 12 to 15 years.
Minor health issues include iris coloboma, nasal solar dermatitis,hypothryoidism, Pelger-Huet syndrome, canine hip dysplasia,
and Collie Eye Anomaly. They are also susceptible to cataract, progressive retinal atrophy, lumbar sacral syndrome, Persistent
Pupillary Membrane, distichiasis, von Willebrand's Disease,eplepsy, and patent duct arteriosus.

Basset Hound was originally developed in France as a huntng trailing dog. They are members of
the hound group and were AKC recognized in 1885.They should not exceed 14 inches tall at the shoulder. They can be any
hound color, which includes combinations of black, tan, white, red and other colors. The Basset Hound has an average
lifespan of 8 to 12 years. Major health conditions that may affect them includes Osteochondrosis Dissecans, gastric
torsion, eklbow dysplasia, thrombopathy, entropion,otitis externa,ectropion,
glaucoma, von Willebrand's Disease, and canine hip dysplasia. Back problems due to obesity are common. They may also
suffer from patellar luxation.

Bearded Collie are believed to have originated in Central Europe and used oherd sheep. They are are
born black, blue, brown or fawn, with or without white markings. Their coats may lighten with age. They are members of the
herding group and were AKC recognized in 1976. They range in size from 20 to 22 inches tall at the shoulder. They have
a lifespan of lifespan of about 12 to 14 years. The Bearded Collie is susceptible to some minor health problems, including
colonic disease, canine hip dysplasia, hypoadrenocorticism, pemphigus,and epilespy. Other diseases that can be
occasionally seen in the breed are cataracts, progressive retinal atrophy, von Willebrand's disease, and persistent pupillary
membrane.

Border Collie originated in the border country between Scotland and England as a sheep herder. Their coat
can be rough or smooth and includes any color in bi-color, tri-color, merle, sable, or solid patterns. They are members
of the herding group and were AKC recognized in 1995.They range in size from 18 to 22 inches tall at the shoulder. They have a
lifespan of 10 to 14 years and are prone to the following health problems seizures, progressive retinal atrophy,
osteochondritis dissecans, lens luxation, hypothyroidism, patent ductus arteriosus, and Collie eye anomaly, canine hip
dysplasia. They may also occasionally suffer from compulsive behavior, cerebellar abiotrophy, and ceroid lipofuscinosis.

Brittany originated in the French province as a bird dog. They are members of the sporting group and
were AKC recognized in 1934. They average size at 30 to 40 pounds and 17½ to 20½ inches at the shoulder. Their
coat can be orange and white or liver and white in either clear or roan patterns. The Brittany has an average lifespan of
12 to 13 years. Major health concerns includes canine hip dysplasia, and less sever health issues such as hypothyroidism
and epilepsy.

lead to many health challenges.The Bulldog is susceptible to keratoconjunctivitis sicca, ventricular
septal defect, canine hip dysplasia, shoulder luxation, internalized tail, stenotic nares, and elongated soft palate. They
have also been known to suffer from urethral prolapse or vaginal hyperplasia occasionally.entropion, cherry eye, elbow dysplasia,patellar
luxation, distichiasis, ectropion, and demodicosis.

Bull Terrier was originally produced in England and used for dog fighting and bull baiting. They
are members of the terrier Group and were AKC recognized in 1885. There is no size standard, but most stand 21 to 22
inches tall at the shoulder and weigh 50-70 pounds. They can be all white (markings on the head are permissible) or colored.
The Bull Terrier has an average lifespan of 11 to 14 years.They may suffer from patellar luxation, heart complication, allergies
and compulsive behavior, and more serious conditions such as kidney failure and deafness.

the shoulder and 35 to 55 pounds. They come in two color patterns: either predominantly white with a mask, with or without
additional patches of color, or solid colored with or without white trim. The Canaan Dog has an average lifespan of 12 to
13 years. They normally do not suffer from any major or minor health problems.

The Chinese Shar-Pei was originally a multipurpose Chinese farm dog. They are members of the non-sporting group
and were AKC recognized in 1992.They range in size from 18 to 20 inches tall at the shoulder and 45 to 60 pounds. Only
solid coat colors and sable are acceptable. They are noted for their cuddly wrinkles,bluish-black tongue, and unusual head
shape. The Chinese Shar-Pei has an average lifespan of 8 to 10 years. They can suffers from minor health issues like lip and
skin fold pyodermas, otitie externa, hypothyroidism, patellar luxation, allergies, and amyloidosis. Minor problems includes
entropion and canine hip dysplasia.

Chow Chow originated in China as a working dog. They come in five colors - red, black, blue, cinnamon and
cream - and are known for their blue/black tongue. They are members of the non sporting group and were AKC recognized
in 1903. They range in size from 17 to 20 inches tall at the shoulder with an average lifespan of 8 to 12 years. The
Chow may be prone to minor health concerns like elbow dysplasia, gastric torsion, elongated palate, stenotic flares,
glaucoma, distichiasis, persistent pupilary membrane, and cataracts. Serious conditions includes entropion, canine hip
dysplasia, and patellar luxation and renal cortical hypoplasia.

Clumber Spaniel is believe to have originated in France. They are one of the original nine breeds
registered by the AKC in 1884. They are members of the sporting group and range in size from 17 to 20 inches
tall at the shoulder and 55 to 85 pounds. They have a white coat and may have lemon or orange-colored markings. The
Clumber Spaniel has an average lifespan of 10 to 12 years. They are susceptible to intervertebral disc disease,
a major health concern. Other minor health problems that the breed is prone to are otitis externa, ectropion, entropion
and seizures.

English Springer Spaniel and Cocker Spaniels were originally born in the same litters, The smaller
"Cockers" hunted woodcock while their larger littermates were utsed to flush, or "spring," game. They are members of
the sporting group and were AKC recognized in 1910. Their average size is 40 to 50 pounds and 19 to 20 inches
tall at the shoulder. Their coats can be black or liver with white, blue or liver roan, and tricolor. The English

Field Spaniel originated in England and was used to find, flush and retrieve. They can be black, liver
or golden liver in color; tan points or white markings are acceptable. They are members of the sporting group and were AKC
recognized in 1894. Their ideal size is 17 to 18 inches tall at the shoulder and above 25 pounds.
The Field Spaniel has an average lifespan of 12 to 14 years. They may be prone to minor health issues such as hypothyroidism,
otitis externa, seizures, heart murmurs, canine hip dysplasia and patellar luxation.

known as the Suomenpystrykorva and the Finnish Barking Birddog.They have a lustrous golden-red coat, which ranges from pale
honey to deep auburn and are members of the non-sporting group. They were AKC recognized in 1991 and range in size from
15½ to 20 inches tall at the shoulder. The Finnish Spitz has an average lifespan of 12 to 14 years. They are prone to some
health concerns, including canine hip dysplasia,epilepsy, and petellar luxation.

German Pinscher were originally from Germany and used to hunt vermin. They are members of the working
group and were AKC recognized in 2003. They are between 17-20 inches tall at the highest point of the withers.
Their coats can be black, blue, brown, fawn or red in color with some having red or tan markings. The German Pinscher
has an average lifespan of 12 to 15 years and is not troubled with any major or minor health problems.
