Shoes knows over 75 commands and she is still learning.

Training your dog does take a bit of time but not training your dog takes much more time and money. A well trained dog will not ruin your new dress by jumping up on you with muddy paws. He will not chew up everything when you leave the house and he/she will be a happy addition to your family.

Every dog should learn to walk on a loose leash (for normal walks), to heel (when meeting other unfrieindly dogs), to sit,  to wait,  to stay and the down as well as being house broken and crate trained. This is the bare mimunun that a dog should learn to be a good family pet.  But the good news is that it isn't hard to teach your dog these things. The trick is to use positive training - most dogs will "work" for food. The easiest way to teach your dog mammers is to become a treat dispenser. and use the same word each time for the action you want the dog to perform. Never get mad at your dog - sometimes it takes awhile for the dog to understand us ( think of being in a foreign county and someone is telling you what to do in a lanague you don't know).

House breaking  made easy. Schedule ! Keep your puppy on a regular schedule. Wake her up at the same time each morning, feed her and take her outside to her "potty place" a half hour later.  Walk her around until she uses the bathroom - say "Good Potty' and give her a treat.  Do not head straight back inside unless she wents to go in.  Most puppies like to be outside and you don't want her to think that going potty means the end of outdoor playtime. After play time is over, place her back into her crate  until lunch time and repeat .  Repeat again before bed time and everytime she is out of her crate, either for food or to play.  Keep her on a schedule and soon when she needs to go potty she will head for the door. Your job now is to make sure you notice that she is waiting on you.

I work with Shoes at least twice a day teaching her new commands and reviewing old ones. We are working on 75 commands Shoes was born on Feb 1, 2010.. Some comands she gets right away and others she has no interest in. Judge your dog and teach the tricks and commands that they like and are capable of doing  and skip the ones that they aren't interested in or not able to do. A large dog can't safely jump into a small person's arms - so forget that trick. Always remember to be safe when training animals.
