I have tried to have a garden when the boys were small but between taking them to sports and working It just never
happened. I did have plans - I had plans for the whole front , side and back yard. Since I have retired I have had time to
make those plans come true. The front yard is fenced in with invisible fencing for Shoes. I wish that Spot could have seen
it - no more chains all day long. The east side yard has three cherry, one pear, one apple, one plum and two
peach trees and four blueberry brushes planted . The west side yard is also included in Shoes fenced in area which give
her sccess to both front and side porches. It has a metal sculpture as the focal point, a bench for seating in the grass area
and a swing bench on the porch itself.
But the back yard is my masterpiece. It is divided into "rooms" for different activities. So far I have finished
the garden area, the archery range, the dog kennel ( which I am thinking about turning into a chicken park since Shoes is
inside and has never been in this kennel), the agility course ( I may add more equipement as we master the ones we have), the
fire pit/ living area ( was finished but I have decided to add a paver flooring to it). The meditation area neeeds a
few trees removed and I have just cleard the thicket area to enlarge the agility area and to create an area for a larger pool.
The pool will most likely be put off for another year ;-( I do miss the pool - but not the cleaning and maintains that it
required.
I an also thinking about starting a rose garden at the far north end behind the archery range.
One wonderful thing about gardening is that you can always change thing and things are always changing.
2014 update:
The garden in the back has turned into a shade garden thinks to the two beautiful pine trees so I have started
a new raised garden in the erchard area. This season I have buildt and completed three beds, one is buidt but I still need
to add soil. The plans call for six more beds which I will be adding later.
The pavered patio area was put on hold due to Bill's health but now that things are better we will be working on
that this summer. If I can pull myself away from painting the inside of our house which I have been working on since
last October. ( thirteen rooms finished with seven more to paint and then there is the apartments that need to be painted.
:-)
December 2014
The sun garden is almost finished. All the raised beds are complete and the compost bin is in place. We have decided
on a plan for a green house but with the weather turning cold so quickly that has been put on hold for a while.
2021
My has the garden changed! It is truly becoming my dream place.
The very front area has wild plum trees as the centerpiece. The invisible fence isn't needed now since Shoes torn a back
ligament and must be walked on leash to prevent her from running.
The east "sun garden" has grown so much. Last year we added a garden shed and this year a real greenhouse.
This garden consist of 11 raised garden beds, 2 round raised garden beds, a bee flower garden, a blackberry "patch".
three grape vines, 2 peach trees, 4 apple trees, a plum tree and 3 cherry trees and the "sprout house". The greenhouse
has 2 in ground beds and 4 raised beds inside and is filled year round.
January 2023
Added a tomato trellis to the main garden last year and increased the melon patch, added a potato patch and an area for
sweet corn. We finished the garden shed and got it organized.
This winter I brought another large greenhouse which we will put up this spring. I have the solar lights, metal beds
and compost bin ready to install once the greenhouse is up.
